-following this year’s lineup of romantic holiday-themed movies to watch from the comfort of your own home
Scenario
Alana Higman, a diehard Kansas City Chiefs fan, and her family compete to win Fan of the Year in a process judged by Director of Fan Engagement Derrick. The movie was filmed on location at the historic Independence Square in Independence, Missouri, which actually seems to be the case year-round. The locations that served as the Higman Family Store and Norma and Nick’s BBQ Restaurant are also real-life family-owned businesses.
I’m not a Chiefs fan either
The Square also has a Christmas light display just like the one in the movie. There was a lot of hype for this movie, including « live » updates during every commercial break from the previous movie. To me, they’re the current Evil Empire of the NFL.
I liked this movie
(They actually have some great players, and I use the term bad as hyperbole.) But once again I’m confronted with my obsession with watching every Christmas movie premiere on at least 5 channels. It was a bit of a departure from the norm, and there may have been snow, but there weren’t any snowball fights or many of the other items on the Christmas movie checklist. Tyler Hynes and Hunter King have great chemistry, almost what I sometimes call sizzling.
I found the acting a bit confusing
The story drew me in first as they try to win the fan contest and then see the outcome of the obstacle near the end. Hynes was as always, steady but relaxed. King’s character had endearing qualities, but also a bit of neurosis, especially in his total obsession with superstition.
With that in mind, I had mixed feelings about the ending, especially after the backstory developed
(I know these feelings are somewhat contradictory.) As I said, I’m not a Chiefs fan, so I didn’t recognize many of the cameos, but there seemed to be a few.
