At the beginning of the film, they first meet at a restaurant
Scenario
The crew of a horror web series travels to an abandoned asylum for a live broadcast. They soon encounter more than they bargained for as they delve deeper into the nightmarish old building. The filmmakers were unable to get permission from the South Korean government to film in the actual hospital, so the scenes in the film set in Gonjiam were actually shot at the Busan National Maritime High School, with the production crew sticking closely to the hospital’s floor plan to recreate the exact same exterior and hallways. However, on the way to the hospital, they reference a previous trip.
Not a blunder
In the footage of everyone jumping into the water, it’s all the same faces that supposedly just met. *EDIT – they referenced a previous trip and then *everyone who had just met* jumped into the water. Soon, they disappear before opening the door
Two teenagers are in the abandoned Gonjiam Mental Hospital, in front of the infamous room 402, trying to open the door and broadcasting videos from their cell phones. The owner of the YouTube channel « Horror Times », Ha-joon (Wi Ha-joon), decides to broadcast live from Gonjiam in hopes of reaching a million hits and sponsors to pay half a million dollars in advertising. Gonjian Mental Hospital has a notorious past, as its director (Park Ji-ah) killed all the patients before committing suicide. Ha-joon joins a team of six teenagers: three boys, Sung-hoon (Park Sung-hoon), Seung-wook (Seung-Wook Lee) and Je-Yoon (Jay Yoo); and three girls, Ah-yeon (Ah-yeon Oh) and recruits Charlotte (Ye-Won Mun) and Ji-Hyun (Park Ji-Hyun), spend the night in Gonjiam and broadcast live.
« Gon-ji-am », aka « Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum » (2018), is a predictable but tense found footage film
Ha-joon stays in a base tent controlling the broadcast with a delay to edit his choice before broadcasting it to the viewers and the group splits up and goes to the four floors of the hospital. What the girls don’t know is that Ha-joon, Sung-hoon, and Seung-wook have implanted fake supernatural effects to haunt the girls and consequently the viewers who would be frightened by the effects. When the effects are activated, Charlotte and Ji-Hyun are surprised and frightened but are convinced to stay with the group. But unexpectedly, supernatural activities occur in Gonjiam and Ha-joon tries to figure out what is happening and keep the broadcast going.
My vote is six
This low-budget film has horrible and messy cinematography done by a practical camera and is scary, but in a confusing way. The conclusion is somewhat insane. « Gon-ji-am » is indicated for horror fans who like this type of cheap way of filming, because the unoriginal plot is funny.
