This relationship both intensifies and eases their pain of change
Scenario
Two teenage sisters are about to leave their country forever when they are unexpectedly reunited with their absent father. Switzerland’s official entry for the ‘Best International Feature Film’ category of the 97th Academy Awards in 2025.
I watched it at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival
I don’t often see films from Peru, as Peruvian cinematography is quite rare. As one of the few Peruvian films I’ve seen, it’s quite good.
Overall, the camerawork is quite good, along with the production designs, setting, and presentation used throughout
Filmmaker Klaudia Reynicke has definitely taken a personal and interesting look at the family dynamic between father and daughters, and the dynamic was well-handled with good acting, strong direction, and some pretty good dialogue moments. The story is simple and although predictable and slightly cheesy, the emotional core, direction and good acting help keep the story interesting.
Overall, it is a good warm and sweet film
Including an interesting insight into the political unrest in Peru and the dynamic relationship between father and children.
